Three Writing Systems, One Sentence

A line of Japanese is written in three systems at the same time, and each one has a job. The blocky characters carry the meaty words, the loopy ones carry the grammar holding them together, and the sharp angular ones spell anything imported from somewhere else. They look nothing like each other, so a child can sort a Japanese sentence into three piles without knowing a word of it - and then learn to read one of the three, the imported one, because it spells words they already own.
