Four Pieces, One Word
Turkish · Page 1 of 2
Name
Date
DIRECTIONS: Read down slowly. Each step adds one piece to the end.
evhouse
evler+ lerhouses
evlerim+ immy houses
evlerimde+ dein my houses
Each piece does one job: -ler more than one · -im mine · -de in.
Always in that order: how many → whose → where. evdeimler is not a word.
Build Six
Turkish · Page 2 of 2
DIRECTIONS: Build each word:
-ler/-lar (more than one), then
-im (mine), then
-de/-da (in).
-ler or -lar? Copy the pattern and see if you can feel it. Sheet 30 has the rule.
| the word | more than one | mine | in mine |
göz eye | | | |
ev house | | | |
araba car | | | |
el hand | | | |
okul school | | | |
oda room | | | |
- Look at the words you built. Some took -ler and some took -lar. Write down what you think decides it. You are not expected to be right yet.
- Turkish for "in my houses" is one word and English needs four. Which is easier to say, and which is easier to learn? They are not the same answer.
