DIRECTIONS: Read the three jobs food does. Then answer.
Food does three jobs.
Fuel
Burned to move and stay warm. Your brain alone uses a fifth of it.
Building material
What you are made of. Your muscles are rebuilt all the time from what you eat.
The machinery
Tiny amounts that make the other two work. Without them, everything stops.
- A car needs fuel and it does not need building material. Say why you need both, and a car does not.
- You could hold a whole year of some vitamins in one hand. If you need so little, why does missing one matter at all?
- Somebody eats plenty of food but hardly any of the building kind. They are not hungry. What might still go wrong?
DIRECTIONS: Tick every job each food does. Some do more than one.

- How many of the twelve needed more than one tick?
- Which food got a tick in only one column and would be the easiest to do without? Say why.
DIRECTIONS: Write everything you ate yesterday, even the cookie. Tick the jobs each one did.

- Which column has the fewest ticks in your day?
- Write one thing you could add tomorrow to put a tick in that column.
- Was there anything that only did the fuel job? How much of your day was that?
- This sheet never told you what to eat. What do you think it was for?
