One rule: small sigma is inside a word and at the end.
These spellings are rough: Greek sounds have changed over 2,500 years.
  1. Which letter is fifth? Which is twenty-fourth? Write the names.

Using the Order

Greek · Page 2 of 3

DIRECTIONS: Answer from the chart on page 1.
  1. Write the name of the letter that comes straight after , and the one straight before .
  2. Four letters in the chart have names that describe them rather than just naming them: epsilon, omicron, upsilon and omega. Two of those four are a pair. Which two, and what does the pair mean?
  3. Count how many of the twenty-four capitals you could mistake for a letter of your own alphabet. Write the number, then write two of them that would trick you.
  4. Somebody writes a Greek word ending in sigma and uses the inside form. Would a Greek reader still know the word? Say what the rule is really for.
