DIRECTIONS: Light from the upper left. Shade the empty solids like the finished ones, in lines that follow the surface.
Flat: the dark starts at a corner, all at once. Round: it arrives
gradually.
1. Done for you: the cube. Top lightest, front in the middle, side dark.2. Done for you: the cylinder. The dark slides in — no line where it starts.
3. Your turn. Same light — upper left.4. The cone: its lines fan out from the point, because the surface does.

Now stack them. A lighthouse is a cylinder wearing a cone. Shade the whole
thing with the light still at the upper left — both parts must agree about where the dark side
is, or the tower looks broken in the middle.
5. One light, two surfaces. Make them agree.6. A round tower on a square base. Where does each dark side go?
Find something in the room that is a cylinder. Which side of it is darkest right now, and what does that tell you about where the light is?
