DIRECTIONS: Copy the picture into the empty grid, one square at a time.
Do not draw the boat. Draw one square, naming it out loud: B6, a straight line along the bottom. The boat turns up on its own.
  1. Find a square in the picture that has something in it.
  2. Say its letter and its number: C4.
  3. Find C4 in the empty grid and draw the same marks in it.
  4. Where does the line touch the edge of the square — halfway? A corner? Match that.

Start with the mast — it runs straight down the middle, from row 1 to row 6.

Corners are easier than curves, so do them first. In this one, four lines meet at right angles and the roof does not — and the chimney stops where the roof crosses it, because the rest of it is behind the roof. Copy what you can see, not what you know is there.

Do the big box first. Everything else sits inside it or on top of it.

A circle, square by square. Nobody draws a good circle freehand — but a circle crosses each grid line at a spot you can find, and the piece inside each square is a short curve you can copy. Mark the crossings first. Join them afterwards.

The head is one big circle. Find where it crosses each grid line first, then join those points.

  1. Which square was the hardest, and what was in it that made it hard?
